Tony Allen’s woke wake…
In August I organised a “woke wake” for my one time best friend and fellow comedian “God father of alternative comedy” Tony Allen .
A fascinating and challenging character (as the best characters likely are)…
The event was a success on a number of levels. Not only did the event ultimately cheer him up, even though he was a bit poorly on the day, it was recorded via an alive stream, for him to watch after, when he was feeling better.
Tony was especially happy that we’d created some comic art that challenged one of the last taboo’s; death and personally I’d recommend organising something similar for anyone who is comfortable with the idea, and has made peace with the impermanent nature of mortality. It was cathartic not only for Tony but also for his friends and extended family.
